A Closer Look at VGM Fulfillment
VGM Fulfillment prides itself on providing fast and accurate medical supply orders so healthcare providers can focus on uninterrupted, high-quality patient care. Part of providing these medical supplies involves processing documents related to insurance claims. Not only are there a large number of these documents per claim, but they can range from standardized hospital forms to more irregular records like handwritten prescriptions and medical charts. Historically, VGM tasked employees with completing the time-consuming, manual work of identifying these documents and compiling them into one place for insurance claim filing.
After initial discussions between VGM and Autonomi, potential opportunities for AI solutions emerged, with this insurance claim process taking precedence. Once Autonomi had a deep understanding of the client’s pain points, an AI proof of concept (POC) was developed using sample data and shared with leadership. With this new project approved, Autonomi began working with VGM’s internal IT team to integrate it into their systems.
Autonomi’s Solution: Rapid, Custom AI to Transform Claim Filing
In order to serve their own customers better and scale operations, VGM Fulfillment needed a better, faster way to sort and compile various medical documents. Given the immense amount of standard and irregular medical documents that needed to be processed for each claim filing,
Autonomi knew that they would need a robust, custom AI solution. The AI Autonomi implemented was able to sort through the vast volume of documents with disparate typed and written information and aggregate the relevant details for insurance claim filing. One of the aspects of this solution was called Homelink, which vetted the licenses of medical staff involved in patient care for compliance requirements of the insurance claims. Additionally, Autonomi helped set up a special email inbox where documents could be sent that would automatically be integrated into the system and organized for insurance filing.

This powerful AI solution has been an operational efficiency success at VGM Fulfillment, actively processing more than 50,000 documents each week. With the implementation of this solution, VGM’s employees no longer have to dedicate a large portion of their workday to tedious, manual work, instead focusing on adding strategic value to the company. This engagement has also helped the client validate the power of AI for their needs, and multiple other use cases have already been identified.
